2007 was a volatile year in music video. The recording industry continued to crumble under the pressure of a mildly democratic new platform — that's this here Internet thing I'm talking about — sending budgets spiraling downwards. But while lower budgets may be anathema to some directors, the music video as an art form continues to evolve in tandem with technology, which itself is evolving at a rapid pace, in step with Moore's Law. While I'm not a technological expert, it seems that in only a few years, by 2012 at the latest, the Internet and television, who are currently eyeing each other, will be on the verge of getting married. The combination of the two media will have extensive implications for how music videos are viewed, who makes them, and, more importantly, who commissions them. To boil it down: Music video may seem like it's on its last legs, but its future is wide open.

Spooky and sensual, and perhaps a little kinky, "What's a Girl to Do?" shows Natasha Khan on a bike ride through a darklit forest, when all of the sudden a band of furries emerges from behind. What does it all mean?

The Bees "Listening Man"
directed by Dominic Leung

Director Dominic Leung started his career with Hammer & Tongs, whose videos emanate heart and inspiration. Here he shows what it's all about with a pair of bright, sunny twenty-somethings whose wide-eyed love is both lovely and endearing.

Coparck "A Good Year For the Robots"
directed by Wouter Stoter / Daniel Bruce

It was a good year for the robots, indeed. Daft Punk took over and nearly decimated an entire generation, turning people into robot wannabe's. But why worry about robots in the future when there are plenty of robotic Aspergians walking around today, including myself?
