I Said Volvo is a story about an office-man who needs a car in this rather pedestrian Gondry clip. For the first 20 seconds the man is speaking with a Volvo dealer about the Volvo 850 TDI's great features. Then the reveal: another man is tied and bound to a chair. Our felon phones the maddening crowd of law enforcement and media below, "I said Volvo!" Apparently he gets it, as the final scene transitions him from driving in the city to the countryside. The final tagline: "Every Volvo 850 TDI comes with a happy man." Besides the funny but awkward storyline, "I Said Volvo" is a bit tame for Gondry's standards. Cutaways of a fleeing Volvo are extraneous. One scene shows the Volvo just escaping a falling, exploding car: huh? Our best guess is that the commercial's original ideas just didn't seem to come together very well. See it here. Images here. |
