Les Négresses Vertes is a band formed by a group of friends in Paris in 1987. Hou! Mamma Mia is found on their second album Famille Nombreuse. The song is a spirited, horn-fueled fête. To accompany the festivities, Gondry sets the band at a family-type feast. The band sits around a dinner table, having a merry time. The camera tracks towards the wall, approaching a party of pictures. Here Gondry establishes a new, groundbreaking technique where photographs interact with each other. While America's first glimpse of this is She Kissed Me, Hou! Mamma Mia is Gondry's first use of it. Throughout the video, the inhabitants of the picture frames dance, sing, etc. Members of the band are featured primarily. One fellow falls out of a picture. The leader grabs a picture of his mates and drops it in a goldfish bowl. Later, bikers travel to different locations, photograph to photograph. You can see the video here. |
