Olivier Gondry's second video is for another French act, this time the band Noir Désir. And, like Behind, he has collaborated with his brother Michel. d-f.c has yet to find out what precise role Michel has played in either of these videos. Since it's a French video, this American writer has succeeded in seeing only 30 seconds of the clip. Thus I turn to lesinrocks.com, whose description is very roughly translated here:

"The new Noir Désir [Black Desire] video was carried out by Michel Gondry and his brother Olivier. Very political, it gives a dark and realistic vision of factory work and productivism. The two directors show the activity of workmen on their lines, each level being geared down and put in a loop, accentuating the purely repetitive aspect of their work and distinguishing each worker's single task. The rate/rhythm of the sequences accelerates dangerously to the point of nausea, becoming a beautiful metaphor of the acceleration of history."

See a Quicktime copy of the video here in Le Club des Directeurs Artistiques.

The title means "backward, around," and the video was shot by Olivier Cariou.

Ten images from the video are here; make of them what you can.
