Welcome back to Director File. Chris Cunningham has directed a new ad for Gucci. The ad, which comes in 20-, 30- and 60-second formats, details a girl — model Abbey Lee — who has a somewhat mystical control over a field of flowers. The ad is similar to Madonna’s whirling dervishy video, and features a revised version of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love” which Cunningham produced in November.

Director File is back for the moment, to celebrate the release of new Chris Cunningham material. Cunningham collaborated recently with Grace Jones for a 12-page spread in the new edition of Dazed and Confused. Cunningham tells Dazed, “When I made the images for Rubber Johnny, I wanted to make some Nubian versions to accompany them. For me, Grace has the strongest iconography of any artist in music. She’s definitely the most inspiring person I’ve worked with so far.”

It’s been some nine years since I started this site as a student of Ohio University. It’s been a weird nine years, not just personally, but throughout the Internet, which has changed a lot since 1991, when I first set foot on it.
